Scope Of PG Engineering (Sussex) Ltd

Strategic Goal

“We must try to encourage the implementation of full manufacturing automation for all UK and Western European OEM’s and CEM’s in order to compete more effectively with low cost labour regions”

  • Provision of “Extra Resource”.  There are many companies that cannot afford the luxury of engineers on site permanently in order to solve particular or unusual problems or investigate new equipment or technologies. Temporary or extra resource with the appropriate skills is the most economic approach.

  • New Product Introduction.  Launching a brand new product efficiently and with minimum disturbance to existing production whilst offering the fastest possible time-to-market requires specialist skill and knowledge.

  • Technical Market Research.  Investigating potential new market arenas whether they be completely new to the customer or not requires dedicated time and research that may not be available to the existing staff.

  • Equipment Selection.  It is too easy to either copy what has been bought before or follow a hunch but the selection of equipment should follow the exact need of the project and there are specific tools and techniques that ensure that the optimum equipment choice is made.

  • Equipment Enhancement.  Occasionally, existing equipment may benefit from an upgrade or the fitting of particular options rather than buying new equipment. It is necessary to assess the actual needs of production accurately and balance them against the existing capability in order to determine if an upgrade or new equipment are best.

  • Lean Manufacturing.  Really, this is applied common sense but there are methods of making factories and organisations more efficient by adopting standard techniques and if these are also modular, then the implementation of “Lean” can be relatively painless

  • Technical Authoring.  The writing of technical manuals and journal articles either for a specific client of for a market.

  • Optimise Market Fit.  If a client develops a new product or technique that is untypical of its previous market then that client will need specialist help in ensuring the correct fit to the proposed new market

  • New Technology Implementation.  Similar, but not the same, as NPI. It is important firstly to understand the new technology and then work out how best to implement it with minimal interruption to normal factory life.

  • Production & Process Capability Monitoring.  Many modern production systems are capable of producing reports on their activities whilst in production. A good monitoring of the results, either remotely or on site, will aid SPC and the avoidance of production processes operating near or outside their limits.

  • Technology Training.  Along with New Technology Implementation, it is vital that a client’s staff fully understand the new technology and how to get the best out of it. A structured training programme will aid this need.

  • Legislation Planning From The Technical Point Of View.  A good example of this has recently been imposed on European states when the RoHS and WEEE legislations became live during 2006.  Many companies need specific help in navigating their way through legal and bureaucratic minefields.  PGE has been involved with this need many times.
